, William L. Bearley, Ed.D.
Self
Assessment-This 32-page booklet contains the PHL instrument,
interpretive materials, and action planning for self-improvement.
The PHL-Self can be used in either an instructor-led program
or for self-study. $7.95 Globalization, changing
customer demands, rapidly evolving technologies-all these
forces have caused organizations to reassess their basic
function and structure. One effect of this evolution has
been the need of the organization to reassess the requirements
of their leaders.
The authors have identified two paradigms
of leadership: Heroic and Post-Heroic. In general, the
Heroic Leader operates in a traditional hierarchy with
command, control, and reporting structure. The Post-Heroic
Leader operates in a role set where effectiveness is
more a result of persuasion and communication than authority.
Post-Heroic Leaders interact with more individuals than
direct reports, including suppliers, customers, and
other managers.
The instrument itself consists of 40
items based on the scales below that differentiate Heroic
leadership from Post-Heroic Leadership:
Heroic
Leadership
Omnipotence
Rightness
Face Saving
Co-Dependency

Post-Heroic
